Mercedes Benz E-Class

Luxury meets style

The latest generation of the Mercedes Benz E-Class maintains its luxurious features, but adds oodles of style and glamour to its profile

It’s younger, sportier, aggressive and bold. Meet the new Mercedes Benz E-Class, which aims to add a touch of sophistication to its already luxurious avatar. We take a sneak peek to determine the car’s qualities and to find why it is one of the most preferred models in the Mercedes Benz India lineup.

Sharp Exteriors
The new front end features a prominent grille with an inserted star and composite LED head lamp clusters. The side caters to a longer profile, courtesy a sharp edged line that runs right across from the front to the rear along with elegant looking five-spoke 18 inch alloy wheels. The rear offers a newly shaped bumper, with chrome finished dual tail pipes and a pair of freshly designed tail lights.

Fun Interiors
In terms of design, there aren’t many changes, except a new analogue clock that can be found in the center of the dash, along with a bigger COMAND screen, which offers a higher resolution than before. In terms of comfort, the rear seats offer an improved under-thigh-support than before. Overall, the cabin comes across as spacious, bright and very airy.

Performance
Mercedes Benz is currently offering only two engine variations on the E - Class, which comprise of E250 CDI and E200 petrol. We tested the E250 CDI, which is a diesel variant. The drive is refined and very comfortable. This sedan caters to two different driving modes — Economy and Sport. In economy mode, the engine behaves normally, thereby resulting in better fuel efficiency. In the Sports variant, it goes ballistic on just a tap of the accelerator. If you really wish to rev the machine hard, you might be disappointed, as the gear box is not quick. But even then, driving within the city or overtaking on the highway isn’t difficult. The feature of a start-stop button is an added benefit for the purpose of saving fuel.

Verdict
The new E-Class is high on looks, while comfort complements the stature of being a premium sedan. Its popularity in the Indian market is a testament of the fact that it has arrived to woo auto lovers, who crave for a radical design and optimum functionality.
